Brokenness, a concept all too familiar,
To every person who ever lived.
When it surfaces,
We feel exposed.
Guilt and shame surge
Even when they are unjustified.
We set expectations
But often do not communicate them
Yet for some reason,
Still expect everyone to meet them.
We secretly crave excessive amounts of love
The love we are not even able to give
Yet feel entitled to receive
Even though we know that
No human can love that unconditionally.
At times, I thought brokenness was endless.
Everything I tried had not filled but emptied me,
But that was until
He walked into my heart.
Before He got in,
I could see the light coming in
Through the cracks of brokenness. Initially, I rejoiced at the sight
But then remembered that
No light had stayed for long in the past
So, I lost all hope yet again.
But then, the light grew stronger.
The darkness shook.
At last, it couldn’t overcome the light.
So, I whispered to myself,
Maybe, there is hope for me yet.
But who was this,
Who had examined my brokenness so closely
And still, chose to approach tenderly and intimately?
It was Light and Life, Himself.
The perfect God who,
Even though the most holy and beautiful,
Became "a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief"
Put on flesh to walk in my shoes
Felt my pain and died my death
So that I could be made whole.
So, as it turns out,
A perfect love exists––Jesus!
Our failures and flaws, He sees and redeems.
Our weaknesses, He uses for His glory.
He is close to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
He says:
Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink–– even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. ~ Isaiah 55:1-2
Will you come? He's already extended the invitation.
